Working at the UMNLA as a Web Developer I was tasked with maintaining and developing the company’s “interim” website. This site was a transitional set of pages meant to replace the existing antiquated site that still held valuable digital assets and data that needed to be archived (also my responsibility) and moved over to a brand-new site that was part of a larger marketing re-branding effort. Unfortunately the old site is no longer viewable for comparison but the interim site is still active and heavily used, and contains much of my content, imagery and more. The site is built through content management system Drupal in accordance with UMN guidelines and notably also contains contributions from Senior Developer Carrie Hatler, Copy Writer Liz Potasek, and PR specialist Susie Hopper. However, the site design, and the bulk of its content belongs to yours truly! Check it out for a sample of my work with CMS and web development/design.
Although rudimentary, I’ve begun to explore scratch web development with basic languages like HTML, CSS, and Javascript. At the University of Minnesota I took courses in Digital Design and Development with some work focusing on coding and basic web principles and I’ve decided to further that knowledge with recreational home projects.
Whether it is basic database set-ups or attempting to replicate the CMS assisted site you are visiting now, I have several basic projects in the works at the moment and if you would like to see the code files as they are updated throughout the development process, use the links below. All the files are written in Brakcets, Atom.io or Microsoft VSCode.
