About me!

Hi!! My name is Chris McNamara and I’m an aspiring media professional with both strengths and experience in both Media Production and professional Marketing. I try not to specialize in any one specific media field, but rather to enjoy a range of talents across many. I am always hungry to learn new skills and am quick to adapt to new work environments and challenges.

I recently completed my education with a degree in journalism from the Hubbard School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities. While my focus in professional interests has always been to be as multi-faceted as possible, I tailored my education to digital media production with courses surrounding digital story-telling, media production/editing, branding and design. I’ve also recently begun to pursue software and programming efforts focusing on UI/UX design and graphic design!

I pride myself on strong communication skills, a balance of logical and creative problem solving, my ability as an effective writer and ambitious attitude toward new opportunities to expand my skill set. I have applied my professional interests as a Field Marketing Specialist & Web/Digital Designer for the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, a Staff Photographer for the Minnesota Daily newspaper, a Real Estate Marketing Associate for Virtuance and as a freelance small-business owner. I am currently seeking work in the world of contracted media production, while continuing my work with this freelance creative business. The world of marketing and branding fascinates me and I am looking for full-time work using my creative potential to help grow brands and promote meaningful messages visual media.

What does media mean to me?

Oh where to start! Put simply, I’m gripped by the power of visuals to evoke emotion and sentiment. Spreading impactful messages is one of my largest life aspirations and I am aiming to do so via media production, both visual and written. Whether designing a website that helps users find a product that will better their lives, or taking photos that capture a special memory, or building a brand image and identity that customers can take pride in and share, the special impact of media moves me. I hope someday to say I’ve created social media campaigns that have cultivated discussion and interest. My dream is to shoot video of compelling stories to share with others. Nothing would make me happier than building my own businesses brand and media presence into a model for future creators to learn from…. When discussing what one is passionate about it can be tough get the words right and contain your excitement!! To keep it short, I love media. And I want to create, share and foster as much with and from it as I can =D!

Hobbies and Recreation

Although I often find my schedule packed to the max, everyone needs to cut loose and relax sometimes. I often describe myself as “a lover of nearly everything” and do my best to diversify my hobbies and recreational pursuits whenever possible. I’m a lover of the outdoors and look for any chance to get out and hike, bike or kayak in nature’s glory! I am also a an avid disc sports player (Disc Golf and Ultimate Frisbee) and have played as a semi-professional throughout my career. Additionally, many of my professional efforts manifest more playfully. I love to write and have been in and out of developing my own outdoor and travel blog for some time. I’m also exploring a reboot of my old YouTube channel in Vlog format covering a range of creative and disc sports topics. And of course my media fun doesn’t stop when I leave the office either; freelance portrait shoots, casual outdoor and landscape frames, and a continual strive to get my FAA drone pilots license, and a constant search to find and collaborate on new projects are all elements of how I fill my free time!

My Values

Whether working in a professional setting or out for dinner with friends, I pride myself on holding a consistent set of values and guiding principles that direct my daily decision making. At the core of my moral compass are ideas of integrity and virtue. I strive to be honest, vulnerable/open, unfailingly hardworking and my own harshest critic. I am not someone that needs a ton of praise but delights at the opportunity to lift up others, and I’m someone who is never too big for even the smallest job. I am a constant work in progress and a long ways off of complete, but I push myself to continue to better and improve myself professionally and personally whenever possible.
